The article examines the understanding of theodicy during the scholastic Middle Ages through the lens of two dominant philosophical movements: nominalism and realism. The scope and content of the material provide an opportunity to demonstrate not only the conceptual emphases placed by representatives of both movements but also the origins of these views within the conceptual framework of theodicy.
