JESUS CHRIST AS A MORAL IDEAL AND FIGURATIVE EMBODIMENT OF VIRTUE

The article is devoted to highlighting the specifics of Orthodox ethics, which is based on the Gospel morality as its highest source. It is emphasized that the Gospel is based on the doctrine of the virtues of God and man, especially the virtue of love. The author draws attention to the fact that the moral ideal of Christianity is Jesus Christ as the figurative embodiment of virtue, and love is the main feature of his character and the main virtue. It is emphasized that the Gospel puts the moral ideal above the natural and written law, submitting morality only to the divine law. Accordingly, in the life of an individual and society, such morality requires holiness behavior that would demonstrate an abundance of inner supernatural life and grace.
